Georges III Vineyard

Rutherford AVA, Napa Valley

Historical records from the Beckstoffer Heritage Vineyard reveal a fascinating past. Portions of this vineyard can be traced back to 1895 when Mrs. Thomas Rutherford planted the initial vines. The story continues with the acquisition of this 300-acre plot by Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour in 1928, at which point it became known as Beaulieu Vineyard Number 3. This historic site was the birthplace of BV’s Rutherford Cabernets, crafted by the renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. The wines produced here garnered widespread acclaim during the 1960s and 70s, solidifying BV’s reputation as a premier producer of fine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 1988, Beckstoffer Vineyards took ownership of the vineyard and embarked on a comprehensive rejuvenation effort. The vineyard was replanted using new Cabernet Sauvignon clones, employing tighter vine spacing and advanced trellising systems to optimize both grape quality and yield. A significant milestone was reached in 2009 when 181 acres of the vineyard were placed under a land conservation easement, ensuring that non-agricultural development would be forever prohibited on this hallowed ground.
